Quick checks
Work through these in order.
1. Is the category right?
The category decides which factors can apply. An electricity activity in s1.1 won't find an electricity factor.
2. Does the activity have every determinant its category needs?
Each category needs certain tags or traits. For example, s1.1 needs a fuel_code and s2.1 needs a country. Check the activity's own tags and the traits on its facility tag. See info on determinants and How emission factors are assigned automatically.
3. Is the fuel or vehicle code specific enough?
General codes like 0210 (Propane) may not have a factor. Use the most specific code, such as 021001 (Propane Gas).
4. Is the value spelled exactly right?
Controlled values must match Measure's list exactly, including case. R-134a works and r134a doesn't.
5. Is the facility trait on the right tag?
A trait only reaches activities that carry that tag. If the country trait is on denver-office but the activity is tagged Denver - Office, it won't be inherited.
6. Does the category have automatic factors?
Categories s3.3, s3.7, s3.10, s3.11, s3.14 and s3.15 don't have automatic factors yet. Supply your own. See Custom Emission Factors.
7. Does the factor cover the consumption's dates and resource?
For custom factors, check that the factor's date range covers the consumption period, and that its resource matches the consumption's resource.
