Active inventory periods tell Measure which reporting years should keep getting automated emission factors. They don't lock a year. Anyone with the right role can still add, change or delete data in any year, active or not.
Active vs. inactive years
| Active year | Inactive year |
Automated emission factors applied to new data | Yes | No. New data shows no emissions. |
Emission factors updated when new versions come out | Yes | No. Emissions already calculated stay as they are. |
Flags for missing emission factors | Yes | No |
Adding, editing or deleting consumption, bills or renewables | Allowed | Also allowed |
Closing a year after you report it
Once a year's inventory is final, remove it from your active periods. New emission factor versions then won't change its totals.
That doesn't stop new data from changing it. A bill uploaded later for dates in that year still adds to its totals. To keep a reported or verified year steady:
Let everyone who uploads data know which years are final.
Check the service dates on bills before you import them. For bills that cover two periods, see Bills that cover two reporting periods.
Download a report when you finalize, so you have something to compare against later.
Common questions
Is a year that isn't active read-only? No. Only automated emission factors stop. Data can still be added, edited and deleted.
I added renewables to an inactive year and it worked. Is that a bug? No. That's expected.
Can we lock a year we've reported or had verified? Not today.
Who can change our active periods? Your Green Project team, in your organization's preferences.
