Uploading Utility Bills

Using the Bill Upload feature

The Bill Upload feature, accessed via the 'Add Bills' button, reads your utility bills, finds the facility and activity each one belongs to, and fills in the consumption for you to check before anything is saved. You need the Operator Manager role to use it.

Upload your bills

  1. Go to Inventory Data and choose Add Bills.

  2. Drag in up to 40 files at a time, or choose Select files. Files can be PDF, PNG or JPG, up to 25 MB each.

  3. Wait for processing to finish. The summary shows how many bills were uploaded, how many facilities were found, and how many energy sources are waiting for you to review.

  4. Review each bill, then import.

    1. If a bill contains more than one consumption resource (e.g. both electricity and natural gas for a facility), bill upload will automatically split them out for you to review separately.

One file can hold several bills. If a PDF has twelve monthly statements, or separate electricity and gas charges, each one becomes its own record.

What Measure reads from a bill

  • Service dates (start and end)

  • Usage and unit, such as kWh, therms or CCF

  • What the usage is for: electricity, natural gas and other fuels, steam, chilled water or waste

  • Account number, service address and total amount

How bills are matched to facilities

Measure compares the service address on the bill with the address saved on each of your facilities. The postal code counts most, then street, city and state. If no address matches, it tries the facility name.

You'll get the best matches when every facility in Measure has its full street address, written the way it appears on your bills. Once a facility is chosen, the activity list only shows activities at that facility.

Duplicates

If you upload a file that's already in Measure, the bill is flagged with "This bill already exists; we'll avoid creating a duplicate", and no second record is created.
