If we buy enough EACs to cover all our energy use, can we report zero Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions?
No, buying EACs only covers Scope 2 emissions, not Scope 1.
EACs represent renewable electricity. If you buy enough to match all of your electricity use, you can report zero emissions under the market-based Scope 2 method.
Scope 1 emissions come from fuels you burn directly, like natural gas or diesel. These cannot be reduced using EACs. To address Scope 1, you would need to look at alternative fuels such as biomethane.
ACT can support you with biomethane certificates as well. These are not yet available through the platform we demonstrated, but if you are interested, feel free to reach out and we can help you explore those options.
