How can companies reduce Scope 2 emissions if they don’t own or control their facilities?
Yes. If your company does not own its facilities and can't control the electricity contract directly, you can still reduce Scope 2 emissions in a few credible ways.
First, ask your landlord if they can switch to a renewable electricity supplier or confirm that the energy used is backed by certificates like GOs or RECs. If the landlord is unwilling or unable to do that, you can still purchase unbundled EACs yourself to match your electricity use and report zero emissions under the market-based method. This is a common approach for tenants and fully accepted under the GHG Protocol.
