Corporate Carbon Footprint – Self-Calculated Using Purchase Data
Who is this for?
This is for companies that don't currently measure their emissions and want to establish a baseline. You don't need specialist equipment, consultants, or years of experience — you can get started using financial data you already have.
Three paths to calculating your footprint
When you select "No, we don't measure emissions," you'll see three options:
1. Self-calculated (free) Calculate your footprint yourself using your purchase data. This is the fastest way to establish a baseline at no cost.
2. Consultant-calculated We use an industry-recognised methodology with a dedicated expert to produce a more accurate footprint on your behalf. This is a good middle ground between full audit and self-calculation.
3. Third-party audited Work with us (or an external auditor) to calculate your emissions in a fully auditable way. This is the gold standard — the results can withstand external scrutiny. Book an initial call to get started.
How the self-calculated (spend-based) method works
The spend-based method uses your company's purchasing records to estimate emissions. The principle is straightforward: every product and service you buy has an associated carbon intensity based on industry averages. By analysing your spending patterns, we can build a picture of your footprint without needing detailed energy bills or activity-level data.
What to upload: A purchase data file containing any payments made to third parties in exchange for goods or services — essentially your accounts payable ledger.
Step-by-step:
- Download the template from the platform
- Fill in the required fields (see below)
- Upload your completed file
- Map your columns to the platform's fields
- Correct any error rows flagged during validation
- Click Complete Import
Required fields:
| Field | Description |
|---|---|
| Date | The date of the transaction |
| Supplier (Optional) | The name of the company you paid |
| Value | The amount spent |
| Currency | The currency of the transaction |
| Country of spend | Where the purchase was made (or defaults to your HQ) |
| Category | A general description, e.g. "office supplies," "IT equipment" |
| Product description (Optional) | A specific description, e.g. "Dell Latitude 5540 laptop" |
You need at least one of Category or Product Description, but providing both gives a more accurate result. The category and description are what allow the platform to assign an emissions intensity factor based on industry averages.
